Kick-off of 'The Human Side of AI' project

The explorative research project The Human Side of AI: Navigating Expertise in the Era of Large Language Models officially started this spring.

Funded by the HIP-Initiative, a collaboration between Swiss Post and the University of Fribourg, "The Human Side of AI" explores the construction, recognition and valuation of expertise through a qualitative, sociological approach. Over the coming months, the project will investigate how conversational agents (re-)shape our understanding of expertise in organizations.

To conduct this research, the institute Human-IST has welcomed a new team member:

  • Yulia Kukles: Combining an academic background in language sciences with tech industry experience, today Yulia researches AI as a social performance, alongside preparing a PhD on AI use in journalism.

The "The Human Side of AI" research project will run until spring 2026 and is led by Principal Investigator Dr. Anna Jobin.
