Junior Researcher (30-50%; fixed-term)


As part of the HIP Initiative of the Human-IST Institute and Swiss Post, the Human-IST Institute (Dr. Anna Jobin) at the University of Fribourg, is offering a

Junior Researcher Position (30-50%; fixed-term).

The research project focuses on sociologically examining how people understand and interpret artificial intelligence in their professional context, particularly investigating how employees assess expertise related to Large Language Models (LLMs) in the workplace. Its aim is to analyze how LLM prompting is constructed, claimed, legitimized, or questioned as algorithmic expert knowledge in work environments

Your tasks:

  • Literature review (primarily in English)
  • Organizing, conducting, and transcribing interviews
  • Implementing an online survey and data analysis
  • Contributing to publications, presentations, and final report
  • General coordination and administrative tasks

Your profile:

  • Master's degree (completed or near completion) in a social science discipline, especially sociology, STS, or communication sciences
  • Experience with qualitative research methods, particularly interview conducting and analysis
  • Excellent time management and ability to work independently
  • Knowledge in AI and/or digitalization and the working world is advantageous but not mandatory
  • Strong language skills: Fluency in German or French, oral skills in the other language, and excellent English proficiency
